For a one-year service commitment, you will likely need the same preparation required of those serving for longer periods. Most agencies and schools require training prior to serving. Training may include pre-field orientation, school orientation, and/or agency-specific training.

School calendar years vary by position, agency, and location. Be sure to acquire the following information from all potential-placement schools:

• Starting date
• Orientation requirements
• Process for obtaining a visa (may take several weeks)

Most schools require a health screening in addition to background checks and other reference verifications.
